Vous êtes accueillis par votre chauffeur à l’aéroport. Vous voilà arrivés en terre tropicale, avec comme première étape
l’orphelinat des éléphants
Visite de l’orphelinat d’éléphants. Sur les rives de Maya Oya, le gouvernement a ouvert un orphelinat d’éléphants. L’établissement compte une quarantaine de pensionnaires dont une vingtaine de bébés trouvés blessés ou abandonnés dans les jungles du pays. Ils sont nourris au biberon jusqu’à l’âge de 3 ans. Nous assistons au bain de ces sympathiques mammifères et à leur gargantuesque repas.

Anuradapura
Fondée au 4ème siècle avant JC, la ville la plus sacrée du Sri Lanka est demeurée la capitale de l’île jusqu’au Xème siècle. Témoins de la force de la civilisation de l’époque, ses “dagobas” élèvent leurs vastes dômes au dessus des rizières et des lacs d'irrigation. Vous verrez l’arbre sacré de Bhô, descendant du “ficus religiosa” sous lequel Bouddha reçut l’illumination. Les magnifiques sculptures du temple Isurumuniya, les énormes dagobas représentatifs de l’architecture bouddhique sri lankaise, la superbe “pierre de lune” du palais de cuivre, dalle en demi-cercle sculptée d’éléphants, de chevaux, d’oiseaux et de lotus et les vastes bassins de Kuttam Pokuna.
Ritigala
En route vous faites un arrêt pour découvrir la réserve naturelle de Ritigala, qui abrite un ancien monastère bouddhiste. Ces ruines, datant du 2e siècle Av-JC, sont au milieu de la jungle, ce qui rend cette petite balade à pied très agréable.

Rocher du Lion (Sigiriya)
La « montagne du lion » est l’un des sites les plus captivants du pays. La visite du rocher s’impose. Au sommet du rocher, d’environ 200 mètres de hauteur, on voit la trace du palais royal. La vue panoramique au sommet vous coupera le souffle. En bas s’étendent les vastes jardins du roi.
Polonnaruwa
Visite du site archéologique de Polonnaruwa, le site médiéval et seconde capitale de Ceylan où se trouvent les statues des trois Bouddhas, les ruines du Palais Royal, le Bain du Lotus et quelques autres petits édifices

Temple Rupestre de Dambulla
Le temple de la caverne Dambulla également connu comme le Temple d'Or de Dambulla est un site du patrimoine mondial, situé dans la partie centrale du pays. Ce site est situé à 148 km à l'Est de Colombo et à 72 km au Nord de Kandy. Il est le plus grand complexe de grottes et les mieux conservées du Sri Lanka. Les principales attractions sont réparties sur 5 grottes qui contiennent des statues et des peintures.

Jardins Botaniques de Peradeniya
Le jardins botaniques royaux de Peradeniya sont le plus ancien jardin formel du Sri Lanka. Le jardin comprend plus de 4000 espèces de plantes, y compris des orchidées, des épices, des plantes médicinales et des palmiers et est réputé pour sa collection d'orchidées et ses longues allées encadrées de palmiers. L'herbier national du Sri Lanka y est également rattaché. Il englobe une superficie totale de 147 acres. Les champs entiers de plants de thé sont autant de verdure à l’infini, tapissant les collines. Arrivée dans la plantation, visite de la manufacture de thé. Possibilité de déguster et d’acheter toutes les variétés de thé de Ceylan sur place, à la boutique de l’usine.
